There has been a lot going on in the world lately. While it’s easy to focus on the volatility of the markets in August, I also wanted to bring you some important news articles from the last couple of weeks.
Last year, there were over 1200 data breaches in the US alone exposing 446 million records. In 2017, Equifax was one that was affected. If you’ve made a claim (or perhaps you haven’t yet?) for the Equifax breach, there are some important updates to the claiming process. If you filed a claim for cash compensation (presuming you would receive $125), it might be a good time to revisit. There’s a good article on your options here. If you haven’t filed a claim, make sure that you utilize the correct website. According to the FTC, you have until October 15th to file a claim.
While healthcare is a concern for everyone, almost 60% of older adults are “terrified” about what medical expenses could do to their retirement plan. Understandably, medical expenses made a list of “Top 10 Retirement Killers”. It’s important that you understand Medicare and what it will cover. (Have questions? I’m here to help.)
If you pay quarterly taxes, your third-quarter payment is due on September 16th. Be sure to work with your tax accountant to avoid any underpayment penalties.
